Baby bath

To bath a baby is always felt as a challenging job to new mother. It is bit difficult to handle tiny baby with soapy and watery hands. But don’t worry; be confident while handling the baby. It true they are sensitive but not fragile as we thought.

Preparation for bath:
  1. Before taking baby to bath please do the preparation for bath in advance.
  2. Arrange the bath tub, liquid soap, shampoo, warm water bucket, mug, toys for fun, bath towel, cotton balls and small napkin in the bath room
  3. Water in the bucket should not be too hot or too cold. In case of requirement keep hot and cold water handy.
  4. After baby bath you required the cloths for baby, diaper, plastic sheet (quick dry), hooded towel to swaddle the baby. Take out these things and arrange properly.
  5. Temperature of the room and bathroom should not be cold. Preferably close the window or gallery doors to avoid the cool breeze.
  6. Switch off the electrical appliances (like water heater, dryer) in the bathroom.
How to bath:
  1. After all the preparation for bath undress the baby and take her bath.
  2.  In India, many families used to do baby bath by traditional method that is by bathing the baby on straitened legs of mother/grandma. That method is also good but needs some practice. If you are not expert in doing same please use the tub bath.
  3. Before taking baby to bath please put towel in tub bath and adds little warm water (1-2 inch) to tub bath.
  4. Take the baby in tub bath by supporting his head with your hand firmly.
  5. Now clean the baby’s eye with wet cotton balls. Use separate cotton ball for each eye. Clean baby face with little wet hands or cotton ball.
  6. Clean baby ear with wet cotton ball and head with wet cloth. If you are confident enough you can wash baby head with water. Only take precaution that water should not go in mouth and nose.
  7. Now clean the baby hands, tummy, chest and legs by using soap and water. Clean the genitals softly.
  8. Generally for baby less than two months try to avoid using water mug. Use hand to splash and put the water on baby’s body.
  9.  After cleaning the all part parts take out the baby and wrap with towel.
  10. Keep on plastic sheet or quick dry. Dry the baby’s body by using towel softly.
  11. Put the baby cloth, diaper and swaddle baby in hooded towel or baby swaddle. Usually baby prefer to sleep after bath.
 Tips for baby bath :
  1. Be calm and patient at the time of baby bath. Never be in hurry. Bath baby gently.
  2. Massage your baby before bath. Bath and massage is good exercise for baby.
  3. Keep warm your baby at the time of bathing and after bath too.
  4. Never left your child unattended at the time of bath. Nothing is important than your baby's life.
  5. Try to avoid usage of soap for cleaning baby's face for first two months.
  6. Never use adult's soap for baby.
  7. If you hired a maid for baby bath. Keep eye on her while she is bathing to your baby.
  8. Check temperature of water before using it for bath. Baby skin is more sensitive than adults. If you are not sure about temperature use thermometer.
  9. If possible sing song while bath so that your baby will enjoy bathing.

Preparation before baby’s arrival

Giving birth to baby is happiest moment in life. We always look forward to give best life to our baby and take positive steps toward that. Before baby’s arrival we should have to prepare our mind for parenthood and our home for welcoming tiny toes.
We have to prepare our home for baby’s safety and pleasant stay. Please find some points which needs to consider and taken care before baby’s arrival.

1. Your home should be clean, neat and free from insects. For insect free home you need to do herbal paste control before one month. Insects like ant may hurt your little one.
2. Please arrange the crib, mattresses before baby’s arrival at home. In India, most of the families prefer to sleep baby next to mother at night. In that case you should use separate baby bedding (thin mattresses) so that baby can sleep comfortably. Keep thin blanket ready.
3. If you are going to prefer rocker or hammock for baby, do arrange it before baby’s arrival.
4. The place where your baby is going to sleep or play should not be too much sunny, windy or noisy.
5. Your new born baby needs a pair of clothes, socks, hand gloves, cap, sweater, baby towel, Cotton cloth to swaddle. Make sure that these things should be available at the earliest after baby’s birth. Many families are reluctant to buy new clothes before baby’s arrival; in that case they can carry cleanly washed cotton cloth to swaddle baby.
